Now Playing: Slacker Radio on Windows 8

Challenge
Slacker Radio wanted to launch their streaming music application on the new Microsoft Windows 8 platform, but they needed a partner with creative expertise in the new Metro-style design. Slacker Radio's goal was to create a Windows 8 user experience that would allow them to easily promote their custom radio experience and showcase their broad range of music offerings. With millions of songs from thousands of artists, the content flow for the application needed to be seamless and the user navigation needed to be intuitive. The project involved several stakeholders and an accelerated project schedule.

Solution
Cypress worked closely with the Microsoft UX team to guide Slacker through the creative process. After identifying key features, functionality and user flows, Cypress quickly created a user interface and visual design that brought Slacker’s brand and Internet radio experience alive with the Metro-style design. The resulting user experience provided the extensibility needed for hundreds of album reviews, artist bios, genres and stations, which was critical to Slacker Radio’s content strategy. In addition, the application integrated custom design components for search, favorites, social feeds and recently played/related music.

In order to meet the project’s aggressive launch date, Cypress used an agile approach to iterate through the design process, while enabling Slacker Radio’s engineering team to quickly start coding the backend of the application. The project was delivered on time and under budget and Slacker Radio is featured as part of a select group of applications available in the Microsoft consumer preview for the new Windows Store.
