When Fancast wanted to give customers the ability to buy or rent downloadable television shows or movies, they contacted Cypress. We created a personalized, revenue-generating solution for Fancast’s online store including a recommendation engine and advertising positions, as well as credit card authorization, and standard eCommerce functionality.
Challenge
Fancast, Comcast’s online video portal, was delivering countless free videos to users of the portal daily. In an effort to both expand the library of available content and monetize the portal, Comcast needed to add eCommerce functionality to give customers the ability to buy or rent downloadable television shows or movies at the click of a button. In support of driving incremental purchases, Comcast also wanted to implement a recommendation engine that would suggest additional videos to users based on their viewing and purchasing habits.
Solution
Cypress worked closely with Comcast to determine the eCommerce and recommendation engine requirements. Cypress then built out Fancast’s online store, adding credit card authorization, advertising positions and eCommerce functionality to an experience that closely mirrors the look and feel of the existing site, which provided continuity to end users. Users now can easily browse content by new releases, TV network, movie studio or genre, as well as all content available for purchase or for rent. To make a purchase, customers simply sign into their account, save movies or shows to their shopping cart and complete the transaction. At the same time, the site will now make recommendations to the user based on their viewing habits. The result: a user-friendly, personalized, revenue-generating eCommerce solution for Fancast.
